My background
Julian graduated from Otago Medical School in 1991, having previously gained a Bachelor of Science at Auckland University. Following an OE he returned to New Zealand to pursue training in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (ENT Surgery) in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Dunedin. He then spent 18 months in Toronto and London Ontario completing his Fellowship training in Head and Neck Cancer Surgery.
In 2019 Julian undertook a sabbatical focusing on Paediatric ENT Surgery, spending time at Starship hospital as well as Great Ormond St and Evelina Hospitals in London.
Julian is a senior surgeon in the ENT Department of Waikato DHB, serving as Head of Department from 2016 until 2022. He assists with junior medical staff teaching and mentoring. Julian has previously served as the Honorary Secretary of the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
Julian has a broad range of expertise in ENT surgery with a special interest in managing lumps in the head and neck region, voice disorders and salivary gland problems including removal of stones using sialoendoscopy.
